Healthcare providers are preparing for the 2026-2027 respiratory virus season amid changes to the federal vaccine-recommendation landscape. Clear, evidence-based guidance is essential to help patients understand their options, maintain confidence in recommended vaccines, and protect people at greatest risk of severe disease.
To support providers and multidisciplinary teams caring for adults, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LAC DPH) is hosting a live Fall Immunization Update: Respiratory Viruses, Medi-Cal, & Cyclospora webinar on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, from 12:00 to 1:30 PM.

Updates to COVID-19, influenza, and RSV immunization recommendations for the coming respiratory virus season, presented by Rob Schechter, MD, MPH, Chief of the California Department of Public Health Immunization Branch, and Samantha Johnston, MD, MPH, Pediatric Infectious Diseases Specialist with the CDPH Immunization Branch and Clinical Associate Professor at Stanford.

Recommendations for the 2026-2027 respiratory virus season were issued by the California Department of Public Health and the West Coast Health Alliance, informed by evidence reviews and guidance from national medical professional organizations, including the AAP, AAFP, ACOG, and IDSA. LAC DPH has endorsed these recommendations.
