LACMA LaunchesTapping In: Mentorship on Demand for Students and Residents

The Los Angeles County Medical Association is launching Tapping In: Mentorship on Demand, a new initiative designed to connect medical students and residents with experienced physicians through accessible, real-world mentorship.

As students and residents navigate the complexities of medical training and early career decision-making, access to timely guidance can be limited. Tapping In addresses that gap by creating a flexible, on-demand mentorship experience that reflects the realities of modern medical education and practice.

Through the program, students and residents are invited to submit questions—either in writing or by short video—across five core areas critical to professional growth:

  • Advocacy

  • Financial Literacy

  • The Business of Medicine

  • Career Path

  • Leadership Development

Questions can be submitted in written or video format HERE.

Submitted questions are curated and shared with LACMA physician leaders and board members, who respond with brief video reflections based on their own experience. These responses are then compiled into a growing digital library, available through the Student & Resident portal and LACMA’s digital channels.

By featuring multiple physician perspectives on a single question, Tapping In highlights the diversity of pathways within medicine and reinforces that there is no single “right” way to build a fulfilling career. The program emphasizes practical insight—how physicians made decisions, navigated uncertainty, balanced professional and personal priorities, and adapted to change.

“Tapping In” is designed to be both scalable and respectful of physicians’ time, while expanding mentorship access to students and residents across Los Angeles County. Over time, the initiative will serve as a living resource that supports learners at different stages of training and reinforces LACMA’s commitment to leadership development, advocacy, and the future of the profession.

Students and residents are encouraged to participate by submitting questions that matter most to them. Whether seeking guidance on advocacy, understanding the financial realities of medicine, choosing a career path, or stepping into leadership roles, Tapping In offers a direct line to physician insight—when it’s needed most.
