Two former presidents of the Los Angeles County Medical Association (LACMA) were recently appointed to prominent leadership positions within the American Medical Association (AMA), further highlighting the role of California physicians in shaping national healthcare policy and governance.
Dr. David H. Aizuss, LACMA’s 136th President and a past president of the California Medical Association (CMA), has been elected Chair of the AMA Board of Trustees. A board-certified ophthalmologist, Dr. Aizuss has been a longtime leader in organized medicine, serving at the local, state, and national levels. As Chair, he will help guide the AMA’s strategic direction, policy priorities, and overall governance.
Dr. Jerry Abraham, LACMA’s 152nd President, has been appointed Chair of the AMA Council on Constitution and Bylaws, which is responsible for reviewing and recommending updates to the AMA’s bylaws and ensuring alignment with the organization’s policies and mission. Dr. Abraham is a public health physician with a national reputation for advancing health equity, vaccine access, and community-based care.
“These appointments reflect the caliber of leadership that emerges from Los Angeles County’s physician community,” said LACMA CEO Gustavo Friederichsen. “Drs. Aizuss and Abraham continue to represent the values of advocacy, service, and excellence that define our organization.”
Their appointments underscore the importance of sustained physician engagement at every level of organized medicine. For more information on LACMA’s leadership and advocacy work, visit www.ladocs.org.
