LACMA Physicians Lead the Way at Leg Day 2025

On April 9, 2025, LACMA physicians, students, and residents joined hundreds of colleagues from across the state for CMA’s Legislative Advocacy Day in Sacramento — uniting to protect and advance the practice of medicine in California.

The day began at the Sheraton Grand with a series of in-depth briefings from CMA leaders and government affairs staff, offering timely insights on this year’s top legislative priorities. Physicians received comprehensive background materials and talking points to prepare for impactful conversations with lawmakers on issues affecting both clinical care and physician well-being.

After the CMA group photo, LACMA members made their way to the Capitol Swing Space for scheduled meetings with legislators. Physicians led discussions on key reform bills designed to streamline care delivery and support the medical profession, including:

  • AB 510 (Addis): Ensures peer-to-peer communication for prior authorization appeals.

  • AB 512 (Harabedian): Establishes firm timelines for prior authorization responses (24 hours urgent, 48 hours non-urgent).

  • AB 539 (Schiavo): Extends validity of approved authorizations to one year.

  • SB 306 (Becker): Eliminates prior authorization requirements for services routinely approved over 90% of the time.

  • AB 408 (Berman): Reinstates the Physician Health and Wellness Program under the Medical Board of California.

Throughout the day, LACMA physicians reinforced the vital role of physician-led care and patient-centered policy, ensuring strong representation on high-impact legislation.

The day also offered space to network with fellow advocates during lunch at the Sheraton and gather for a LACMA group photo at the Capitol in the afternoon — a moment of unity and pride in shared purpose.

LACMA extends deep gratitude to every physician who dedicated their time and expertise to advocate for the profession and their patients. Your leadership continues to shape the future of healthcare in California.
