The Los Angeles County Medical Association (LACMA) Board of Directors has approved a $50,000 contribution to support Yes on ER, the Essential Healthcare Restoration Act of Los Angeles County, set to appear on the June 2, 2026 ballot.
Measure ER is a temporary half-cent funding measure to help stabilize Los Angeles County’s healthcare safety net following significant federal funding reductions tied to H.R. 1. If approved by voters, the measure is expected to offset billions in projected losses impacting public hospitals, community clinics, and care for low-income and vulnerable populations.
For physicians across Los Angeles County, these funding reductions are already translating into increased patient demand, reduced resources, and growing strain on care delivery across all practice settings.
To ensure transparency and accountability, the measure includes the creation of a nine-member independent citizens oversight committee responsible for monitoring the allocation and use of funds.
“LACMA’s mission is to support physicians and advocate for policies that protect access to high-quality care for patients across Los Angeles County,” said LACMA Board President Dr. Heather Silverman. “Measure ER is aligned with that mission. Physicians are already seeing the effects of financial strain across the healthcare system, and this measure represents a critical step toward preserving access to care and maintaining essential services in our communities.”
Healthcare leaders across the region have raised concerns that federal Medicaid funding reductions under H.R. 1 will increase pressure on emergency departments, reduce access to primary and specialty care, and further strain the healthcare workforce. The proposed measure is designed to mitigate those impacts locally and protect the broader care delivery system.
LACMA’s contribution underscores its continued leadership in advancing solutions that address the real-world challenges facing physicians and the patients they serve.
