LACMA mourns the passing of Thomas L. Horowitz, DO, a dedicated physician, advocate, public servant, and longtime LACMA member.
Dr. Horowitz was a member of LACMA for 41 years, offering his leadership, expertise, and voice in service to physicians, patients, and the Los Angeles community. His work with LACMA included chairing committees focused on Emergency Medical Services, AIDS, Care for the Medically Indigent, and public health. At critical moments for Los Angeles healthcare, he brought compassion, courage, and sound judgment to the work of organized medicine.
Dr. Horowitz was especially known for his leadership during the AIDS epidemic, serving on the Task Force on AIDS Risk Reduction and Education and the Los Angeles County Commission on AIDS, where he later served as chair. His advocacy reflected a deep commitment to education, prevention, and compassionate care.
In 2017, LACMA honored Dr. Horowitz with its Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to health policy, public service, and the medical profession. He later continued his service as Chair of the Los Angeles Medical Association Political Action Committee from 2020 to 2021.
